Monte Carlo — The best European croupiers will declare their champion in Monaco.

Monte Carlo

After a two-year hiatus, the European Dealer Championship 2022 returns to recover its reputation as the leading dealer competition in the European land-based casino sector. This year’s event takes place at the spectacular Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, which boasts the largest stage and grandest theatre in European gaming. The EDC host, Société des Bains de Mer, will host 37 entrants, 39 jury members, and hundreds of onlookers over three days from May 16-18 to witness the crowning of Europe’s best dealers.

The ECA Dealer Championship is Europe’s oldest championship of its kind, with croupiers selected at the national level to play in a knock-out event requiring technical competence, game control, hospitality, and steely nerves. The European Dealer Championship has visited 13 countries and welcomed over 400 competitors and 2,000 spectators from all around Europe and beyond since its inception in 2007. The much-anticipated Monte Carlo event will be extra memorable as the industry reunites in an incredible place after such a long time apart.

Up to two talented entrants from some of the industry’s biggest casino operators have been submitted in a battle to crown Europe’s best of the best, including ambassadors from Austria, Belgium, Estonia, France, Luxembourg, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Monaco, and others, who are among the record number of 22 countries competing in this year’s European Dealer Championship. In a hard knock-out battle to determine the best all-around performer, 37 jurors will judge three primary categories: technical talent, game control, and hospitality. Dealers will demonstrate their talent and skill on two of the most popular casino table games, American Roulette and Blackjack, as well as a variety of side events meant to highlight their flair, throughout the competition.

Tamas Adam of Swiss Casinos is the reigning EDC champion, with technical expertise, game control, and player-focused hospitality setting the standard in 2019. He’ll be a part of the jury team again this year. To win the title of best dealer in Europe in 2022, participants must show quick thinking, dexterity with chips, math, and socializing while being judged by top independent international judges who have all worked as dealers at some point in their lives.

On the evening of May 16th, all participants will assemble for a welcome reception at the Hotel Hermitage, where the lottery for the first-round groups will be drawn. On May 19th, the winner will be announced, a prize will be awarded, and a party will be held at the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo.

Per Jaldung, CEO of Casino Cosmopol in Sweden and Chairman of the European Casino Association, commented on the upcoming competition, “In the absence of the EDC over the past two years, the camaraderie shown by our network of casino members has provided the beating heart of the ECA’s response to the pandemic.” On May 16, we will gather in a site that is universally recognized as a global reference point for gaming and entertainment to celebrate the art of gaming with our friends and colleagues from the European land-based sector. The EDC 2022 is an opportunity for the rest of the globe to see the enthusiasm, professionalism, and hospitality that European gaming floors deliver to its visitors.

Celebrating this immense skill and talent has always been the key aspect of the EDC, and we are proud to organise this year’s edition played out across the spectacular backdrop of Monte-Carlo.”

Tournament Director Jaana Ruokamo, Chain Operations Manager at Casino Helsinki, Finland, added: “We look forward to gathering in Monaco for a unique edition in a symbolic location. It is thrilling to take part in an event that recognises our dealers’ hard work and dedication and puts their achievements in the spotlight on the biggest stage in Europe. As judges, we look forward to not only scrutinising the technical skills and deliberating over the precision and craftsmanship of the croupiers but most importantly to the celebration of the social connections to play, fun and entertainment that only land-based gaming can provide.”

“Casino de Monte-Carlo has been waiting for two years to finally welcome the best dealers in Europe to Monaco,” states Pascal Camia, Executive Vice President of the Gaming Operations of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer and Vice-Chair of the ECA. “Monte-Carlo is the perfect stage for both the comeback of land-based casinos in Europe and the celebration of the amazing talent and dedication of those working in our sector. It is our pleasure to welcome participants, jurors and spectators to Monte-Carlo to celebrate the Art of Gaming.”

“Given the magnitude of this year’s event, the ECA would like to thank Abbiati Casino Equipment, Clarion Events, CLS, CTC Holdings, Dallmeier, Galaxy Gaming, ICSE, Light & Wonder, Matsui Europe, Smart Rota, London Gaming, Holland Casino, Hippodrome Casino, Veikkaus, and Tanga for their support.”
