Redesigned golf course at Resorts World Awana to open this year, says Genting Malaysia

Casino group Genting Malaysia Bhd says its “newly-redesigned” 18-hole golf course at Resorts World Awana will open later this year. Resorts World Awana is in the Genting Highlands area and associated with the group’s Resorts World Genting casino complex.

News about the golfing facility was given by Genting Malaysia’s chairman, Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, in comments included in its annual report, released on Thursday.

The report noted that other “key enhancements” for 2026 included the planned launch – at mid-hill level – of Eufloria, a new “nature-themed attraction”. It will feature what is described as “Malaysia’s largest greenhouse complex”.

Eufloria was mentioned at the time of a November announcement about Resorts World Genting signing a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia’s government on boosting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

The golf course and Eufloria should help in “strengthening Resorts World Genting’s position as a leading regional leisure and entertainment destination,” the company said in its annual report.

The group’s flagship property is Resorts World Genting, which holds Malaysia’s only legal casino. The group also operates casinos in the United Kingdom, Egypt, the United States, and the Bahamas.

The firm added that it would continue to “undertake selective refurbishment and upgrading works” across its facilities in Malaysia to “enhance the overall guest experience”.

In the United Kingdom, Genting Malaysia said it had “progressively rolled out additional gaming machines across its properties following recent legislative reforms that permit increased gaming machine allocations in casinos”.

The group also stated it had secured planning approval for the redevelopment of the London Trocadero property at Piccadilly Circus into a “three-storey casino and entertainment venue”, broadening its footprint in a prime central London location.

In the annual report, Genting Malaysia also referred to its award, in December last year, of a full commercial casino licence by the New York State Gaming Commission.

The initial phase of redevelopment of the group’s existing Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) envisages an “expanded gaming floor alongside enhanced entertainment, hospitality and supporting amenities”.

In December, the firm said the first phase of an expanded RWNYC might open in the first half of this year.

The annual report also noted that, following the completion of a corporate exercise in December 2025, Genting Bhd increased its direct shareholding in the group from approximately 49.9 percent to 73.8 percent. “This allowed Genting Bhd to gain statutory control of Genting Malaysia, cement its position as the holding company, and become its majority shareholder.”

Genting Malaysia reported a net profit of MYR145.9 million (US$36.9 million) for the fourth quarter of 2025, compared with a net loss of MYR457.9 million in the previous year, it said in a February filing to Bursa Malaysia.

For the full year 2025, Genting Malaysia reported an 8.9 percent increase in total revenue to MYR11.88 billion. Full-year adjusted EBITDA rose 13.3 percent to nearly MYR3.30 billion.

The group’s net profit increased fourfold to MYR670.7 million for the full year 2025.
