International Game Technology will launch a series of exclusive giveaways and promotions to commemorate the silver anniversary of a “hallmark” of its gaming portfolio, Wheel of Fortune.
IGT launched the game in Reno, Nevada in 1996, and according to IGT and Sony Pictures Television. It “paved the way for hundreds of additional licensed slot games to appear in land-based and digital casinos worldwide.”
Among the numerous milestones attained over the 25 years, Wheel of Fortune slots has minted over 1,100 millionaires and awarded over $3.3 billion in jackpot prizes, with over 250 versions introduced. It also paid out a record-breaking $14.4 million jackpot to a player in Biloxi, Mississippi, in 2009.
IGT is celebrating the occasion with a ’25 Weeks of Wheel of Fortune Slots’ promotion. It begins this month and will include giveaways and promotions in casinos, as well as trivia and game spotlights. Furthermore, the company states that new themed product launches for both land-based and online play.
