ArenaPlus amping player acquisition via ‘tournament bracket game’ offer: DigiPlus

Philippines-listed DigiPlus Interactive Corp says the recently-launched PHP1 billion (US$-16.6-million) “Prediction Giveaway” initiative, via its sportsbook platform ArenaPlus, represents a “major step-up” in the latter’s “customer acquisition and retention strategy”.

The parent added in a Monday update that the initiative is “anchored by a high-stakes prediction challenge designed to invite new users onto ArenaPlus, while also deepening player participation and reinforcing brand leadership in the Philippine online sportsbook” segment.

DigiPlus stated: “Central to this campaign is the introduction of a localised tournament bracket game.” It added that the latter was a “staple in American sports culture that ArenaPlus is pioneering for the local market”.

A bracket game is named after the tournament diagrams seen in single-eliminator championships in sports such as basketball or football. Those participating need to predict winners in the tournament ‘tree’.

Erick Su, head of ArenaPlus, was cited as saying in the Monday update regarding offering a localised tournament bracket game based on the National Basketball Association (NBA) system in the United States: “We want to bring some excitement for the Filipino basketball fans, especially since we know that the NBA is the most popular sport here.”

DigiPlus said that its Prediction Giveaway is a “free-to-play initiative”, enabling fans to engage in the tournament “without any monetary commitment”.

It indirectly cited Mr Su as saying the campaign was designed to provide a “safe, entertainment-led experience”.

The parent said that while the campaign was designed to drive wide participation, the group “intends to maintain strict platform integrity” through what it termed its “rigorous eKYC” (electronic know-your-customer) protocols.

DigiPlus stated: “Such a guardrail bolsters an already rich suite of responsible gaming tools built into ArenaPlus.”

These included “options to set daily gaming durations, customise specific gaming schedules, and establish daily loss limits”.

The parent added: “This ensures that while the campaign achieves great reach, it does so within a secure, transparent, and compliant environment that builds trust.”

Last month DigiPlus said in a statement it was part of a “technical working group” in the Philippines tasked with “drafting legislation aimed at improving consumer protection and industry transparency”.

That was in the context of the country’s Senate and the nation’s regulator, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor), strengthening their oversight.
