DraftKings will tweak its DK Replay product in Oregon following discussions with regulators, with changes to pacing and responsible gaming set for next week.
DraftKings will make changes to its new DK Replay product in Oregon following discussions with the Oregon Lottery, which said it engaged the operator after receiving “comments” on the newly launched betting product.
In an email to Gambling Insider, Oregon Lottery External Communications Program Manager Melanie Mesaros said the regulator and DraftKings “collectively decided to adjust DK Replay to more closely resemble the pace of a live baseball game” and introduce responsible gaming prompts at regular intervals.
The changes are expected to be implemented this week.
What Is DK Replay?
DK Replay is a sports betting product that allows users to wager on historical MLB games, specifically at-bats, presented sequentially to simulate a live game environment.
Similar to historical horse racing machines (HHRs) found in multiple states, DK Replay does not rely on a random number generator; instead, it draws from a database of past events to reveal outcomes pitch by pitch.
Users can place wagers before each pitch, mimicking live in-game betting.
According to the Oregon Lottery, the markets are anonymized at the time of betting. That means users do not know the outcome despite the events being predetermined.
DK Replay does not rely on a random number generator… Instead, it draws from a queue of hundreds of thousands of betting markets that have previously been offered on the DraftKings Sportsbook,” Mesaros said.
The Lottery also framed the product as an extension of existing betting formats. It noted that Oregon players can already place wagers on a pitch-by-pitch basis in live baseball games.
Lottery Maintains Product Falls Within Authorization
Despite requiring adjustments, the Oregon Lottery made clear it does not view DK Replay as outside DraftKings’ approved offering.
We believe this wagering opportunity falls within what DK is currently authorized to offer within our sports betting product,” Mesaros said.
The regulator also emphasized that DK Replay differs from casino-style games, which rely on random outcomes. Instead, it ties directly to real sporting events with integrity monitoring.
As with all other wagering opportunities… [it] involves markets on professional sporting events with a governing body that employs integrity monitoring services,” she added.
DraftKings has stated that it plans to introduce the product to additional markets, pending regulatory approval.
Responsible Gaming and Oversight
As part of the agreed changes, DK Replay will include additional responsible gaming prompts during gameplay.
Mesaros said existing DraftKings tools, including activity tracking and limit-setting features, already apply to the product. She added that all DK Replay markets remain “fully transparent and auditable” after settlement, with oversight from the Oregon Lottery.
