Best Bet England vs. France: Les Bleus to Win in Regulation (-104)

This is a difficult game to cap because of a lack of motivation and uncertainty about which starters will play and for how long. That said, England is coming off a devastating loss to Argentina, which scored two late goals in a span of six minutes to win, 2-1. Additionally, France has an extra day of rest after losing to Spain, 2-0.

Should England win, it will be the best finish for the Three Lions since they won the World Cup in 1966.

France’s Kylian Mbappe does have some personal incentive to score, as he’s tied with Argentina’s Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot standings. Mbappe has failed to score in two previous matches against England, but he’s scored 20 goals in 21 World Cup matches and trails Messi by only one on the all-time list.

Both players have eight goals in this World Cup. Here’s Kalshi’s odds on the Golden Boot market as of publication:

  • Lionel Messi -144
  • Kylian Mbappe +144

Mbappe could benefit from a more free-flowing game, as third-place matches lean toward that game script with nothing on the line. Spain has conceded just one goal in six matches, so it might be tougher sledding for Messi.

Another factor working in France’s favor to win? This is the final match for manager Didier Deschamps after 14 years on the job. Deschamps, whose mother passed away early in this tournament, led France to the 2018 World Cup title and a runner-up finish in 2022. A third-place finish would complete the cycle.

Best Player Prop for England vs. France

Kylian Mbappe OVER 0.5 Goals ( -122)

For all of the reasons mentioned above, Mbappe is the most likely goal scorer in this game. Whether it comes on a penalty kick or an individual display of brilliance, he and Messi have simply played at a different level in this tournament.

Mbappe has scored a pair of goals in three matches during this World Cup. As bad as England looked defensively in the final minutes against Argentina – and with little motivation to play in this game — it would be no surprise to see Mbappe turn the trick again.

We lean toward the conservative play of Mbappe scoring one goal, but Kalshi offers +456 odds on him scoring twice if you’re interested.
