NUSTAR advances reforestation push with community tree-planting in Cebu

NUSTAR Resort & Casino says it has carried out tree-planting in Talisay City, in Cebu, as part of the group’s wider environmental sustainability programme and a long-term target of planting 100,000 trees by 2028.

The work is an element of the resort’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, aimed at “supporting reforestation” efforts and promoting an environmentally “resilient” Cebu over the coming years, according to a recent press release.

NUSTAR Resort & Casino conducted the recent tree-planting activity in partnership with the CAMMITA Farmers Association, a local group providing assistance and knowledge of the land. The casino property’s promoter said the collaboration reflected the role of community collaborations in delivering longer-term environmental programmes.

NUSTAR Resort & Casino launched in May 2022. The casino complex is owned and operated by Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc, which is a privately-owned company by the Gokongwei Group.

According to the announcement, 50 employees from the resort joined the initiative as volunteers for the tree-planting effort. The company added that such activities are set to continue on a monthly basis as part of the group’s sustainability agenda.

NUSTAR Resort & Casino said the programme is to strengthen environmental stewardship and engagement with local communities, while contributing to sustainability efforts in Cebu province.
