The unified gambling authority for France, l’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has directed operators to prioritize lowering their percentage share of gross gaming revenues (GGR) from “problematic players.”

Following its examination of action plans on the “prevention of excessive or pathological gambling” presented by licensees in 2022, the ANJ board requested the initiative.
The “most important risk” associated with French gambling is recognized to be problem gambling. According to data from market watchdog L’Observatoire des Jeux, French gambling has “1.4 million gamblers at danger, including close to 400,000 that are classified at a pathological level,” according to ANJ.
According to L’Observatoire des Jeux: “the share of (GGR) Gaming Revenue attributable to problem gamblers represented 38.3% in 2019, including 20.7% for problem gamblers”.
