Football fans gathered in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, to watch the 2009 Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Chelsea at a gambling hall.
However, their evening was cut short when a fire broke out in one of the arcade’s dozens of slot machines. People struggled to escape the flames due to a lack of fire exits. A total of nine people were killed, with another 11 injured.
It sparked significant change, with MPs banning casinos, slot machine halls, bookmaking shops, and internet gambling.
