LAS VEGAS (AP) — U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra raised a stark warning Thursday about the coronavirus pandemic. He implored people to get the COVID-19 vaccine as he visited Vegas, a hot spot of rising infections and deaths.
Becerra hence named it a “pandemic of unvaccinated,” claiming that 99% of people dying from COVID-19 did not receive immunization.
Becerra accompanied Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak on a tour of a vaccine clinic and a virus briefing at a Las Vegas firefighter training center that has been converted into a hub for the deployment of a White House COVID-19 “surge response” team.
Therefore, for the time being, officials are focusing their efforts on vaccine promotion. After the pandemic and related restrictions hammered the tourist-dependent economy last year, local politicians and the governor have resisted imposing capacity limits or closures on businesses.
