The number of television betting ads shown on ITV during the 2020 UEFA European Championships has dropped by nearly half compared to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
A total of 85 such advertisements aired on ITV and ITV4 during the Euro 2020 group stages – 47% fewer than the 161 betting ads shown on the same channels during the previous World Cup group stage.
According to ITV, this equates to 3.7 ads per live match at this year’s tournament. It was down from 6.9 in 2018, due to the whistle-to-whistle ban imposed by Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) members.
