British racing on the verge of joining test program of sport events with spectators

British racecourses could form part of the next wave of test events for spectators. They will consider at least one fixture in June for a pilot event.

Racecourses have not held any pilots during the first phase of the government’s Events Research Programme (ERP), that tested different scenarios for getting people to, from, and around locations safely ahead of the phased reopening of society following the Covid-19 lockdown.

The lack of racecourse representation and the limitations on attendance numbers at tracks continues to agitate participants and fans. Trainer Tom Dascombe expresses annoyance that he could not associate with his owners after winning at Chester. He could only meet them at a nearby pub for a drink.
