Canada: MP concerned as sports betting bill heads to Senate

Canada

Kevin Waugh has brought single-game sports betting to the brink of legalization in Canada. Still, he’s realistic about the bill’s chances of passing.

“Do I believe in myself? “I’d say 50-50,” the Conservative MP from Saskatoon said. “It’s sort of out of my control now.

“Even though it passed the House, it now goes to the Senate, which is a little different. They march to the beat of their own drum. Is it going to be released? Who knows, especially when it’s a backbencher’s PMB [private member’s bill] from a Conservative….”

The bill is scheduled for second reading next week, and if it passes, it will then go to the committee.
