Northwest Florida bingo players and others across the state are safe from legislative efforts to change the game they enjoy.
The Panama City Republican stated during the Legislature’s special session on gambling that bingo is a large social activity involving small bets. It mostly benefits charities and should be exempted.
That is correct. The Senate tabled its bingo legislation, which would have elevated the game to pari-mutuel facilities through the use of electronic “card minders”. House showed no interest in the matter.
The Senate warned, “I represent northwest Florida, and we don’t care how much roulette or blackjack you play. But don’t mess with bingo.”
