Although there are “many circumstances that are out of our control,” Grand Island’s temporary casino in Nebraska might open to the public as early as October. Chris Kotulak, the CEO of Fonner Park, suggested the opening could be postponed until October.
The temporary 200-slot facility will be built on the Fonner Park premises by Elite Casino Resorts of Iowa, Fonner Park’s gaming operator.
Mr. Kotulak said: “I would expect a temporary casino facility to be in operation before the end of 2022, but probably not until closer to October. It’s hard to predict which month the casino will open because there are many variables that are out of our control. It will look and feel like a casino, just a small one. We don’t want to short-change our guests with an inferior environment or experience.”
The imposing Grand Island Casino Resort at Fonner Park will have 650 slot machines, with the capacity to expand to 850, 20 table games, a VIP Lounge, and a high-limit slot machine. A 116-room boutique hotel featuring an indoor and outdoor pool, as well as a full-service spa and salon, will open alongside it.
