House and Senate leaders set the stage for a special legislative session to consider a gambling deal that Gov. Ron DeSantis collaborated with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
House Speaker Chris Sprowls, R-Palm Harbor, and Senate President Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, have issued a formal joint proclamation to return legislators to Tallahassee during the week of May 17. The state’s 30-year gambling “compact,” announced on April 23, includes sports betting.
“As you are aware, on April 23, 2021, Governor DeSantis and the Seminole Tribe of Florida conducted a historic new 30-year gaming compact. It was to regain the state’s relationship with the tribe. And also to preserves and provides new opportunities for Florida’s legacy pari-mutuel industry. It also offers substantial new revenues for the state of Florida,” Simpson said to senators.
