Despite ongoing restrictions on retail activity due to the pandemic, French gaming giant La Française des Jeux (FDJ) reported a year-on-year increase in revenue and stakes in the first quarter.

Total revenue for the three months ended March 31 was €537.6 million (£466.7 million/$644.3 million). It was up 5.2% from €511.2 million in the same period last year.

Gross gaming revenue increased by 5.1% to €525.9 million. And, the revenue from other activities increased by 10.7%, from €10.6 million to €11.8 million.

FDJ said the increase in revenue was due to a rise in stakes, with players spending a total of €4.6 billion, up 11.8 percent from €4.11 billion from €4.11bn in Q1 last year. It was although the operator faced more restrictions related to the pandemic than the same period in 2020.
