‘It’s long overdue’ – Northern Ireland gambling laws set to undergo significant change

Betting shops in Northern Ireland to boost by the new legislation imposed. It will allow retail outlets to open on Sundays, according to Brian Graham of leading bookmakers Sean Graham.

The move also has the potential to reduce illegal gambling. It is part of a plan that the Communities Minister did to implement significant changes to gambling laws for the first time in over 35 years.”

Premises-based gambling will address first in a proposed two-phased approach to bring gambling legislation up to date. Earlier, it structured on the 1985 Betting, Gaming, Lotteries, and Amusements Order.

Moreover, this will include – among other elements – the establishment of a compulsory code of practice for those holding gambling licenses.
