Manhattan legislators squash the New York City casino project

Manhattan politicians have thwarted Gov. Cuomo’s plan to build a Las Vegas-style casino in the Big Apple.

As reported in March, three major casinos — Wynn Resorts, Bally’s Corp., and Las Vegas Sands — have been preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete for a New York City-area casino license as early as this year.

However, efforts to speed up the process by two years — from 2023 to 2021 have failed. It is due to strong opposition from Manhattan legislators, according to sources.

“I vehemently oppose any casino in Manhattan,” Upper West Side Assemblyman Richard Gottfried told The Post
