SkyCity Entertainment Group, a New Zealand casino operator, has confirmed that it will no longer use junkets to attract VIP players from other countries to its casinos.
The move is similar to that of Crown, an Australian casino group, which, after being an unsuitable operator in the recent Bergin inquiry, decided to end all arrangements with international junket operators.
SkyCity stated that it has decided to permanently stop dealing with all junket operators and continue operating its International Business division under a revised operating model.
The operator said: “Earlier this year, SkyCity began a strategic review of its International Business division, as previously indicated to the market as part of SkyCity’s interim result announcement for the six months ended 37 December 2020. In relation to its revised operating model, SkyCity will consult with its gaming regulators in New Zealand and South Australia.”
