The Landtag of Schleswig-Holstein has passed a law confirming the issuance of five online table game licenses and setting a tax rate of up to 44 percent on gross gaming earnings.
When the Fourth State Treaty on Gambling came into force in July 2021, the Landtag adopted a statute to implement it, allowing online casino games to be offered across Germany for the first time, rather than just in Schleswig-Holstein.
State governments were given a choice in how they wanted to regulate online casino table games under the Treaty. They have the option of forming a monopoly or issuing as many licenses as the state’s land-based casinos. There are five land-based casinos in Schleswig-Holstein.
