Suncity Group is suspending all of its VIP gaming rooms at Macau casinos and not paying certain employees five days after its chief executive officer was detained, according to people familiar with the situation.
According to the persons, Macau’s largest junket operator would close its rooms on December 1 and stop paying some staff on the same date. They asked not to be identified since they are not authorized to speak publicly. According to the persons, some staff were also advised that their November paychecks might not be paid on time, and it was unclear if the closures were temporary or permanent. According to one of the sources, the salary bans affect at least one-third of Suncity’s Macau employees.
