Casinos and high-street betting shops in the United Kingdom will no longer need to follow anti-COVID regulations such as social distancing and the wearing of face masks.
“We strongly welcome the Government’s intention to remove the remaining COVID restrictions on July 19. It will provide a much-needed boost to the economy,” said Michael Dugher, Chief Executive of the BGC. It is especially good news for hospitality venues like casinos and their employees, as the businesses have been closed for many months and subjected to crippling restrictions.”
“Throughout the pandemic, casinos have spent millions of pounds on best-in-class anti-Covid measures. It will continue to ensure their venues are safe for customers once the remaining restrictions are over,” Mr. Dugher said.
To help kickstart the tourism industry, the BGC CEO urged ministers to safely ease travel restrictions.
“We would also like to see more progress on foreign travel,” he said. Nonetheless, the Prime Minister’s announcement is very welcome, and casinos look forward to contributing to the UK’s post-pandemic economic recovery.”
