UK: GambleAware outlines ‘consistency barriers’ in Citizens Advice support

GambleAware

GambleAware has released its evaluation of gambling support services in England and Wales. It identified key facilitators, barriers, and opportunities in the services provided by Citizens Advice centers across the country.

Between October 2018 and March 2021, Citizens Advice provided the Gambling Support Service in England and Wales. It used offices in all 12 regions of the two countries and screening 30,000 people for gambling harm.

GambleAware also identified barriers to screening consistency across multiple Citizens Advice offices in its [study] conducted by KantarPublic.

Inconsistencies in screening question frequency and format were due to a lack of flexibility in screening questions, perceived stigma, and the limited capacity of front-line workers across some offices.
