DraftKings and FanDuel are going all-in on sports betting in Florida. Hence, they are launching a ballot initiative that will open the Florida market to all sports betting companies.
They are assisting in the funding of Florida Education Champions. It is launching a proposed constitutional amendment just a month after a new Gaming Compact that guaranteed the Seminole Tribe of Florida exclusive rights to sports betting in the state.
To get a ballot initiative slot and threaten the Seminole mobile betting monopoly, it will need 891,589 valid petition signatures.
“Florida Education Champions is a political committee that secures petitions. It is in order to place an amendment on the November 2022 general election ballot,” according to the committee.
“Specifically, this amendment authorizes sports and event betting at professional sports venues, pari-mutuel facilities, and statewide through online platforms. But if betting revenues must pay taxes, the taxes must supplement the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.”
“The Florida Division of Elections just approved the committee’s request for an official serial number for ballot placement. It is so that we can immediately begin the petition collection process and thus initiate efforts to generate significant revenue that can be directed to Florida’s public education system — without raising taxes.”
