With the forthcoming review of the Gambling Act, GambleAware is calling for a 1% mandatory fee on UK GGR.

GambleAware has reiterated its proposal for an obligatory 1% fee on gross gaming revenue (GGR), claiming that it is now more vital than ever due to socioeconomic difficulties in the UK, such as inflation.

The levy is one of six new principles released by GambleAware today (27 April) to address gambling harms that may be compounded by the cost of living crisis, ongoing financial challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic, and a growing trend to internet gaming.

As part of its contribution to the Department of Digital Culture, Media, and Sport’s (DCMS) Gambling Act review earlier this month, the charity stated that it hoped to see an obligatory tax established.
